So here we are at the end of week one having officially launched Get Hitched Flicks, a new Edinburgh based Wedding video company. We have been delighted with the response to the promo video and already have a few wedding video enquiries which is a great start to 2017! So how did it all come about?
In all honesty we had never envisaged filming weddings. It was a market that we felt was well covered with some amazing videographers (or filmmakers, however they wish to be known) supplying great work already. Our company Neoneight Ltd had been producing films for charities and small corporate companies in Scotland and we were enjoying the work we were doing. It was only when we were approached & got chatting to a couple via LinkedIn who were looking for a wedding video with a difference, that we felt that we could use our more documentary style filming to create something unique for them. Telling a real story through the couple, their friends and family in the lead up to the big day rather than it be just about the day itself. Marriage is, after all, more than a day.
The couple loved the idea and so we embarked on our first wedding film, incorporating two days of pre-wedding day events – a bridesmaid gathering at the fantastic Timberyard restaurant in Edinburgh and a groomsmen get together in Jeremiah’s Taproom (we left before the real drinking started. No-one wants to have a camera in their face when there’s serious drinking to be done!). We also went on to do a relaxed interview with the couple in their home just a few days beforehand when the excitement of the approaching day was palpable!
The footage gathered over these days of filming caught friends and family at their most relaxed, with time on their side to recall and share memories and stories of their lives shared with the happy couple. We realised that on the day itself there is hardly any time for this, so we felt we were definitely going to be able to create a film that truly captured the couple and what made them, them!
On to the big day itself and we found ourselves at the stunning Carberry Tower, a Royal Heritage property near Musselburgh, East Lothian. What a joy to film in such a beautiful location. A sweeping drive (which you can see on the Get Hitched Flicks promo video ) up to the entrance of the 15th century mansion. A roaring fire greeted us in the reception and though it was early September and the sun was shining, the warmth that radiated from it was most welcoming, matched fully by the warmth of the Carberry Tower staff.
The wedding ceremony took place in the private Chapel on the estate, a fabulous light, uplifting room with one end entirely made up of window (which admittedly provided a small lighting challenge to begin with – but swiftly overcome!). The couple looked stunning and it was a privilege to be part of what was a very emotional ceremony.
This was all followed by a champagne reception that took full advantage of the stunning grounds accompanied by a live acoustic trio and then onto a delicious smelling (and we’re sure tasting!) sit down meal in an impressive marquee set in the gardens. Cue the speeches, first dance and much merriment!
Sat in the edit suite a few days later, music choices from the couple playing away, their story started to fall into place. It was then we realised how much fun we had had. Being a part of the build up to such a momentous day in a couple’s life and having the responsibility of capturing that on film so they can watch it for years to come, is a unique experience. And all of a sudden, we wanted to do it again!
Thanks for reading and just as a little heads up, keep your eyes peeled for a ‘recommend a friend’ offer out next week.
